Such a great read!!!

Chasidy and her boyfriend Dalton have an amazing sex life, only problem is that Dalton's job has him away from home - and Chasidy - lots. While trying to figure out how to keep herself satisfied sexually, without cheating, Chasidy stumbles on the latest thing; hers being an Erobot named Liam. While she gets even more pleasure from Liam, she is caught in the act by Dalton, who gets more than he bargains for from his relationship with Chasidy.

Once I started this series, I couldn't stop. I only wished that there was more than the three books. With an interesting look at the future, this story takes the idea of a vibrator to a new level with a damn near true-to-life sex toy. This story is wonderfully written, greatly detailed that will leave you panting, a tingling feeling all over and wanting more. This is a purchase you won't regret!

I just love these short erotic novels. Sex toy is for sure one of them.
After a long stressful day it is a perfect for bed time. The author is explicit but not that mush as in the other authors novels. It is just for my taste. Get this book and you'll see that I was right.

Man the Bird could play

This book really helps you appreciate what a master of jazz Charlie Parker really was. Seeing all of these solos with the chord changes right above sometimes makes you wonder "How did he think to do that?"

I like using this book for sight reading practice and a little bit of analysis afterwards. I read through the solos veeeery slowly (did I mention he's ridiculous?) and then look over the parts that I thought sounded pretty cool to see what he was doing. If you're a trombone player don't be intimidated that he had buttons to press very rapidly, just buy the book and play some great jazz, even if you're playing at 1/3 the tempo.

I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in improvising or just reading jazz. Especially trombone players.

Parker for Trombone

The book is an awesome transcription of Charlie Parker and his amazing solo and style. It is very accurate. It's a great way to enhance your improvisation library. The only problem that I had, was that the music is written down an octave than sounded by Charlie Parker. Obviously the tenor sax plays in a higher range. It's not really a problem, but you have to play an octave higher along with the recordings to try and match the timbre of the instruments. I guess it saves you from reading ledger lines or tener clef. Anyway, great book for a great price.

A must have for a jazz vocab.

First off, I have to correct funkybass4ever "baynzer66" 's review as he/she has commented that all transcriptions are in the key of C. This is incorrect and misleading. However all transcriptions are devoid of key signatures which is very useful in jazz, especially in bebop due to the rapid movement through key centers and the heavy use of chromaticism.

Now to the book itself. I view the omni book as one of the most valuable books of transcriptions out there, even if there are a few mistakes in it. It's one of those books that anyone learning the language of jazz needs to at least look at. It's nice to see that it's in bass clef (as I play bass); my treble clef version (I also play guitar) is well hammered and much loved.

If you are a bass player (or anyone else for that matter with good taste) and want to see/hear a bass player using Parker's vocabulary check out Dario Deidda, start at youtube. (I'm not sure if I'm allowed to say that!)

About the Author
Richard Bellis is an Emmy Award winning composer who, for the past 20 years, has found time to teach and mentor as well as compose. He has served on the faculty of the USC Scoring for Motion Pictures and Television program and taught film scoring for UCLA Extension. He is a past president of the Society of Composers & Lyricists and has served on the board of governors for the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. In addition, he annually mentors a select group of emerging composers for the ?ASCAP Television & Film Scoring Workshop with Richard Bellis.?

A Great Book That Gives New Meaning to "Must-Have"

The key to this book lies not only in the title but the subtitle as well: "An Introduction to the People, Problems, and Psychology of the Film Music Business. Other possible titles, though already used, could also fit: "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Being a Film Composer but were Afraid to Ask," or "Film Composing for the Rest of Us." This book fills a gap that no other book has filled to date and does the job so thoroughly, it may just be the final word on the day-to-day practicalities of being a film composer.

Can you work as a film composer without a college education? How much do you expect to earn per year as a film and television composer? Can you live - or more accurately - survive on that amount? Do you know how to break down the costs of doing a score into fees and hard costs? How many films would you have to score per year just to get by? And this is just the first two chapters.

Richard Bellis has been known point out that he may not be a "household word" in the music business, but he may showing some humility here, because for certain, he is a household word in the film music business and highly respected at that. (See his credentials above.) He also knows his audience, and identifies that there are the eight or so A-list composers who make millions of dollars, the next level down in the six-figure category, and finally the remaining 90 per cent - composers working on movies for television, games, TV series, independent features, documentaries, commercials, and so on. That's us, folks. That's who this book is for, the emerging composer, hopefully on his or her way to even bigger and better things down the film music road.

Chapter 3 is about the most sought-after knowledge, "Getting Work." Here, and elsewhere in the book, Bellis paints a very realistic portrait of how things work - or don't work - when it comes to actually getting work. It is best summed up in his statement, "This is a buyers market." And this is typical of the knowledge that Bellis imparts on the reader throughout the book - it's a very no-nonsense approach which not only deals with the difficulties, but with the inequities of landing the gig. He describes the "randomness" of the business which can work in your favor or against it, but in either case, you should not be discouraged from pursuing the goal, better put in his statement, "When you realize that everything good comes `out of left field,' your job is to go to the ballpark every day."

Bellis goes on to cover Spotting, the Writing Process, Recording and Podium Procedure, Delivery and the Dub, and fills in some of the blanks with Random Thoughts. As if that weren't enough, he wraps things up with great stories from other talented composers in the business, each filled with words of wisdom, sometimes in the form of truly hilarious experiences.

I have all the other books - great books - on the topic of film music. This one is a real gem. In addition to the great information it provides, it's written in a nice, easy style filled with wit and touches of wry humor. Because of that, it's more like a special treat - an invitation to hang out with Richard Bellis over a beer and discuss the film music biz. If you're an emerging composer trying to fill in a lot of the blanks, this book is a must-have. If you're an established composer trying to get a better handle on the biz, this book is a must-have. And if you're simply curious about the film music business and want a glimpse into how it all works, this book is, well you guessed it - it's a must-have. (But you can't have my copy, because I won't let it out of my sight!) Kudos to Bellis for even thinking of writing this highly valuable book.

The music business is a tough one to break into, even for those that know what they are doing. Narrowing that down to film composition is even more difficult. I read this book cover to cover in one day because I found it absolutely fascinating. Anyone who is even thinking about a career in this industry should get a copy immediately.

Not only does Richard Bellis tell us the REAL DEAL of what goes on in the industry but even helps with time management, contracts and what is REALLY expected by the pros and does so in a light-hearted and enjoyable way. There is nothing left uncovered on the business side of the business.

By all means, learn all you can about composition, creativity, sound and recording. It is essential. But without this knowledge and insight, you'll have a tough time getting in the door!

A very practical and helpful book

I was very fortunate to be able to study film scoring with Richard Bellis at USC back in the early 1990's, and he was a wonderful teacher. I learned a great deal from him in those classes. So I was thrilled to discover that he had taken his vast knowledge of the film scoring industry and had written a book about it.

I've just finished the book, and I have to say it's been one of the most practical and helpful books of its kind that I've ever read -- and I've read MANY such books over the years. I'm having a major recording session for a film score in just a month, and reading this book was enormously helpful to me in preparing for the session.

While most books on film music focus either on interviews with famous film composers, OR, focus on the very technical side of writing music for film, Richard's book is unique in that it gives you all the practical, nuts-and-bolts things you need to know about being a film composer -- something that all of the other film music books seem to lack. The information in this book is presented in an honest, practical, and well organized way, and every page of it is helpful in some way -- so be prepared to highlight a lot of the text! :)

I highly recommend this book to anyone involved in film scoring. No matter what level of experience you may already have in this field, I guarantee that you will gain a number of valuable insights by reading this book.

As Aristotle was a student of Plato, who ultimately surpassed his teacher in philosophic largesse, so too shall Prometheus Lionhart, as his gift of knowledge turns to wisdom, and that wisdom to the ability to repay student loans… maybe.

Decent book in bad need of an editor

First the good. I liked the style of this book. Easy to read vernacular and colloquialisms. It's like having a classmate explain things to you in a way that you can easily understand. And it seems to cover all of the topics that are fair game on the core. So it's definitely worth a read.

The bad -- (1) it strongly relies on "buzz words", especially the "gamesmanship" chapter; I don't know if the author appreciates that the test is very different from the USMLE or "writtens" and is "image rich" and not going to ever give you a descriptive sentence full of buzz words to run with. instead they will show you the picture. So it doesn't help if you associate "punched out lytic lesion" with gout -- you need to get there from looking at a radiograph of gout. As such this book would benefit from significnt addition of images. Or you need to use it in conjunction with the Internet and look up images as you read along (which makes it a much less quick read). (2) this book needs an editor, badly. Clearly the author was in a rush to get it out in time for the next offering of the core, but there's a typo or grammatical error on virtually every page. And the author apparently doesn't know the differences between the word "effect" and "affect" -- he pretty consistently uses the wrong one, which is a bit distracting.

So basically this is a very nice first draft, but hopefully there will be a cleaned up, more "image rich" second edition on the horizon.

I bought this one week before the examination, but wish I had it for longer. Used in conjunction with question banks and cases, it is a great reference to organize and consolidate your thoughts. Does a great job of explaining questions correctly. It is an excellent reference and I would recommend it to anyone studying for the core.

Many typographical errors should be fixed imo - but still the best source out there.

This is a review book. Clearly not intended to be your only resource studying for the CORE. I'm not sure why it helps me that the author calls all the silly things we need to know "trivia" or "high yield random facts", but I enjoy the style. There is a high correlation with Rad Primer questions, my other favorite study tool.

Limited material and poor representation at Bookbyte!!!

I am really enjoying this book, however, I ran into a major problem with the Bookbyte representative. In the Preface it speaks of The Instructor's Media CD etc. that can be purchased. Well after being shuffled from one person to another I finally get one who ask's "What institution are you a professor at?" I explained, that I'm a retired FDNY Paramedic and would like the resources as advertised for my own edification. "Sorry, not a professor at an institution, you can not buy it." What sort of crap is that? Thus, I'm impressed with the book, but by no means Bookbyte!
