Great design book

A quality book from Fine Woodworking. There are a range of really nice designs and projects in this book. The instructions are not completely thorough, so this book is probably not for the beginner, you definitely need a certain amount of knowledge to complete the projects as described, but combined with other woodworking books, this is a great addition to my collection.

Straightforward Approach with Clear but Comprehensive Data to Back It Up

I’ll never view a toddler’s tantrum in the same way after reading this book.

As the author says: “There is never a shortage of parenting advice…What’s really important is helping parents obtain the right scientific information to think critically and then make their own decisions.”

And that’s exactly what Pamela Li does; lays out the reasons why children have tantrums, explains what’s happening in their brains to cause them, and describes how different reactions will produce different outcomes (and not necessarily the intended result).

The natural reaction of many parents to a tantrum is to ignore, punish, or respond with a raised voice and increased agitation. The author explains in simple but scientific terms why these reactions are not effective in the short term or healthy in the longer term.

Busy parents will be pleased to know that this is not a long-winded, complicated book to follow, even if it does cover the science behind the topic. One thing that appealed most is how succinct and straightforward the theory and method is laid out. The author doesn’t promise instant results but with the knowledge I gained from this book I certainly feel better equipped to handle tantrums in the best way without causing more problems that I resolve.

Now I get it ...

One of the most trying aspects of being a parent (to date) has been when my daughter throws a temper tantrum. It’s been happening more and more frequently. Unfortunately, after working all day – my patience and capacity for understanding is a little lower. I did a little searching on Amazon and found Pamela Li’s book about tantrums, and I’m glad I downloaded it.

The book is great for two reasons. First, the author explains why children throw temper tantrums, and she does it in a way that’s easy to understand. I guess I had never really given any thought as to why a child would pitch a fit, but now that I understand, I can look at her tantrums a bit differently. Turns out that my daughter is as frustrated with not being able to communicate as I can be with her tantrums.

The second aspect of the book that I really liked is that Li gives readers great advice for dealing with tantrums. Her methods end up being learning experiences for both child and parent. Thanks!!

Ok, third thing I really like about this book is that it’s a short read. Being a parent herself, Li understands that we don’t have a lot of time to read over textbooks regarding the subject.

I highly recommend this book. Thanks for returning my sanity!

Step-by-step, easy to follow solution to end tantrums

I came upon this book while searching for advice to deal with my toddler’s tantrums. I was intrigued by the simple, yet effective approach described in this book. Too often, parents deal with tantrums with the simple goal of ending a conflict. Yet this book reveals that how parents deal with tantrums has long-term effect on a child’s development. The ideas are based on a large amount of scientific research, yet put in a simple, easy-to-follow framework with step-by-step advice for frustrated parents. It also helps parents to understand their kids’ tantrums by seeing things from the kids’ perspective. I find the book to be tremendously helpful in helping me understand my little one and deal with her tantrums in a firm yet loving manner.

Pointless Review

Since this book is no longer in print, I find it very pointless to review it. But just in case someone is interested in buying it used, I'll tell you it's worth it.
The book gives you a flood of information on all those girl groups of the late '50s / '60s. It has all the groups you expect with a nice little history to accompany it. This is a great book if your into girl groups.
I'll be honest though, I'm not into girl groups. The only reason why I bought this book is because it mentions my Dad in it (The Shangr-las first recorded in his basement studio).

A truly wonderful book clearly undertaken by a man with a genuine affection and love for 'a sound'.
The desire to listen to them all is the mood created and then the challenge to hit the itunes library to playlist his 137 essentials.
I had to go one step further and source the DVD.
The songs still live and this sometimes forgotten or unappreciated era deserves this type of book.

Worth a Reread

This book was published almost 15 years ago, but it remains relevant today. For those who read it when it first came out, it's worth a reread. For those who aren't familiar with this volume, take a look at it for the first time.

Roger Masters is ambitious in his aim--to use a conception of human nature based on evolutionary theory as a springboard for explaining political phenomena. Few people in the discipline of political science have the breadth of knowledge to attermpt this task.

A look at the topics in the book illustrates: Masters explores the roots of altruism, bonding, aggression, society and language to explore, as the title of a key chapter has it, "politics as a biological phenomenon." As a philosopher, it is unsurprising that he uses his evolutionary framework to explore the nature of the state. He concludes this volume by examining some political phenomena in more detail.

All in all, this volume is as relevant today as when it came out.

A must read...Love this series

I have been anticipating this book for a month. There was not one ounce of disappointment either. Sandi hit it out of the park with this one. What a beautiful story and told so well. They really are each other's Lobster. This book will leave you with every emotion; laughing, angry, crying and moat of all loving. If you haven't read the other two books, read them! Your a great story teller Sandi. Can't wait for Ransom next

Well, I guess this is how it's gonna be; each book just as fab as the one before it! Harley's Achilles revolves around the lives of Harley Payne and his bodyguard, Achilles Castellanos. By the end of the last book, Jinxed, we were left knowing that there was something bound to happen between the two of them.
Harley always seemed a bit lost in the first two books. His character is childlike and more vulnerable than the rest of the band, considering he's in his early thirties. He's incredibly loyal, giving, devilish, sexy and lovable, but he doesn't see this about himself. Harley not only suffers from the physical loss of his brother, but the psychological loss at the hands of his parents. It's truly heartbreaking as he comes to terms of being ignored; not being seen. You feel his cry for attention.
Luckily for Harley, he has a Greek God to help him find his way. Enter Achilles. He's not only ex military who's hot as all hell, smart, strong and bossy, he's as lovable as Harley. I adored his family in Greece. They accept Achilles as he is and treat Harley as a real family should. Achilles has his own demons that he needs to come to terms with. It was a beautiful thing to see how in helping Harley, he also helps himself.
This book was filled with plenty of man love, I mean c'mon, Achilles and Harley? Just the visual alone made me hope my blood pressure meds were working! Of course, the antics and funny banter between the band members had me laughing my head off! I've mentioned this about the second book, but it's funny how Gareth, the youngest of all the guys, is still the voice of reason, lol. Most of all, you can't help but get caught up in the love between every one of them. They are all brothers and that in itself, made me realize that Harley never truly was alone. Sandrine's attention to detail, especially describing the beauty of Greece, and the passion she gives to each of her characters, made this an incredible 5 lobster claw read for me.

I love this author and I had high hopes for this ...

I love this author and I had high hopes for this book. It just didn't seem like she had enough of a story to pull it all together. There is no resolution, good or bad, with the original conflict of Harley's parents. The addition of the conflict of someone trying to harm Achilles didn't vibe with the history of the band. I'm glad I read it and I can't wait for Ransom's book but it is not nearly as good as Gareth or Jinx's books.
