Shallow, obvious suggestions, misleading description

I thought from the description it would be a guide to better shooting with pro tips. Well, the photos are pro but the commentary is super general for complete beginners. "Some shots are better if the subject doesn't know they are being photographed." Is one example. This is useless for someone who shoots a bit and wants to take it to the next level.

HMM It' just OK.

I got this for ideas. Helpful tips? not so much. Nat. Geo. has very good Photographers. Help tips a vague at best. If your looking for the mechanical settings (F-stops, shutter speeds, ISO, and so on). this isn't for you. What I got out of the book was ideas I'd like to try. One could look at it like a mystery, such as how did they set this image up? What would I use? There are lots of books out there with great images. This book let me down.

A well-crafted inspirational work

If you're looking for a book on the technical aspects of a shot, you may want to look elsewhere. If you're looking for some creative inspiration and motivation, I recommend that you flip through this book! Although there are "recipes" or "formulations" for each and every photograph on the back of the book, Getting Your Shot wants to motivate all those that are interested in photography to capture special moments... moments that you may have patiently wait for and carefully look for. This book is one of the best photography books I've read. It is beautifully put together. I was astounded at the level of care and attention that was placed to weaving every single photograph, story, quote, and photography tip inside this masterpiece. It contains great stories and narratives. I enjoyed reading the stories and photographs so much so that I jotted a few quotes down. It portrays the viewpoints of what many of the photographers were thinking and how they captured the photograph. It is so interesting to see how the photographers went about taking the shot, how patient they were, and how creative they were in catching the light. You can feel each photograph. You can taste the moments. You are transported to so many places within a short amount of time while learning a bit of photography tips on the side. I'm so glad to see National Geographic publish such good works of photography! Sit down, grab your favorite drinks, dive right in, and indulge your senses. You will definitely emerge a different person.
